Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is one of the most anticipated releases in the long-running Disgaea series of strategy RPGs. Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting the game’s release, which promises to deliver more of the quirky humor, engaging gameplay, and intricate strategy that has made the franchise so beloved. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with the director of Disgaea 7, Shunsuke Minowa, to discuss the game and its development.
One of the first things that Minowa-san mentioned when we sat down to talk was the game’s setting. Disgaea 7 takes place in a Japanese-style Netherworld, a departure from the more traditional European-inspired settings of previous games in the series. According to Minowa-san, this change was made to give the game a fresh new feel and to explore different cultural elements that haven’t been seen in the Disgaea universe before.
“We wanted to create a Netherworld that felt unique and distinct from the ones players have encountered in previous games,” Minowa-san explained. “By drawing inspiration from Japanese folklore and mythology, we were able to create a world that is both familiar and alien, with a rich history and mythology that players can explore and uncover as they progress through the game.”
In addition to the new setting, Disgaea 7 also features a cast of new characters, each with their own unique abilities and personalities. Minowa-san spoke passionately about the process of creating these characters and bringing them to life in the game.
“Creating characters is always one of the most enjoyable parts of developing a Disgaea game,” Minowa-san said. “We spend a lot of time brainstorming ideas, sketching out designs, and writing backstories for each character. It’s a collaborative effort between the writers, artists, and designers on the team, and we all work together to create a cast of characters that are both memorable and engaging.”
One of the aspects of Disgaea 7 that Minowa-san is particularly excited about is the game’s combat system. Building on the depth and complexity of previous games in the series, Disgaea 7 features a revamped combat system that offers even more strategic possibilities for players to explore.
“The combat in Disgaea 7 is all about planning and strategy,” Minowa-san explained. “Players will have to carefully consider their party composition, positioning, and abilities in order to come out on top in battle. With a wide variety of classes, skills, and equipment to choose from, players will have a lot of options for customizing their party and developing their own unique playstyle.”
Overall, my conversation with Shunsuke Minowa left me even more excited for the release of Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless. The game promises to be a fresh and innovative take on the beloved Disgaea series, with a new setting, cast of characters, and combat system that will challenge and delight fans of the series. I can’t wait to dive into the Japanese-style Netherworld and uncover its mysteries when the game releases later this year.
