RMDateSelectionViewController

This is an iOS control for selecting a date using UIDatePicker in a UIActionSheet like fashion

The labels of the UIDatePicker are still black because Apple does not allow to change the appearance of UIDatePickers. (But there are hacks around...)

Usage

Basic

  1. Add all files in RMDateSelectionViewController folder to Xcode
  2. Import RMDateSelectionViewController.h in your view controller

    #import "RMDateSelectionViewController.h"

  3. Implement the RMDateSelectionViewControllerDelegate protocol

    @interface YourViewController () <RMDateSelectionViewControllerDelegate>
    @end

    #pragma mark - RMDateSelectionViewController Delegates
    - (void)dateSelectionViewController:(RMDateSelectionViewController *)vc didSelectDate:(NSDate *)aDate {
        //Do something
    }

    - (void)dateSelectionViewControllerDidCancel:(RMDateSelectionViewController *)vc {
        //Do something else
    }

  4. Open date selection view controller

    - (IBAction)openDateSelectionController:(id)sender {
        RMDateSelectionViewController *dateSelectionVC = [RMDateSelectionViewController dateSelectionController];
        dateSelectionVC.delegate = self;

        [dateSelectionVC show];
    }

Advanced

Every RMDateSelectionViewController has a property datePicker. It is available after show has been called. With this property you have total control over the UIDatePicker that is shown in the screen.

Additionally, there is a method called showFromViewController:. With this method you can control where the your date picker is shown. For example on an iPad this method can be used to show the date picker in a popover.

Limitations

Due to some UIKit internals, it is not possible to show a date selection view controller from an instance of UITableViewController. If the UITableViewController instance is wrapped into an UINavigationController instance the date selection view controller will be shown from the UINavigationController instance. If no UINavigationController can be used instead, an error will be logged and showing the date selection view controller will be canceled (to prevent your app from crashing).

Requirements

Works with:

  • Xcode 5
  • iOS 7 SDK
  • ARC (You can turn it on and off on a per file basis)

May also work with previous Xcode and iOS SDK versions. But it will at least need a system capable of Autolayout (and I think it will look awful on iOS 6 ;)...)
